ABOUT ME

I’ve never had a big interest in writing. I’m that student that waited until just before class to write the 6 page paper. I’m the girl that writes a 6 page paper and doesn’t reread it before turning it in. I always tried to keep a journal, but it never lasted long. I think I started and stopped at least 10 journals, not to mention the online journals I kept as a teen (please never read those). Until recently, I didn’t think my words mattered much. I’ve always been very good with them though. As a child, I would write lengthy apology letters to my mother when I was in trouble. She said I could talk my way out of anything and should be a lawyer because I’m so good at using my words to get what I want. I never wanted to use my words to make a living, until now.

            A little background:

I was born in southern California but raised in southern Louisiana. My summers were spent on the west coast until I was 12 when my parents started sending me on educational summer trips. I spent my last two years of high school taking college courses and living in the dorms at Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. I had a full ride scholarship to LSU, but I dropped out, made a few wrong turns and then joined the Marine Corps. I turned 19 in basic training where I thought I knew everything and could take on the world. The superman complex as I like to call it. We all have it when we get out of basic. You don't realize how easy your life is until you live through 3 months of drill instructors screaming in your face, 45 second showers, and zero personal space.

I ended up injuring my hip so severely that I was discharged in 2011 after a year of fighting to stay in. Apparently they frown upon hip replacements in 21 year olds. My transition took a pretty heavy toll on me. I fell into a deep depression and made a few more wrong turns while dealing with my discharge that ultimately ended with my divorce. It wasn’t easy to live through, but I know it was the best decision for both of us. We managed to rekindle somewhat of a friendship in the years since we divorced. I am happily remarried to the love of my life who just so happens to be a woman. Yeah, my mom was a little shocked too.  In fact, most people were. As the years passed, though, everyone has come to see how much happier my life has been since meeting my soul mate. She has embraced me in ways I never knew possible and supports me in every endeavor I see fancy to chase. She will more than likely be a huge part of this blog and my inspiration for a lot of writings as she is active duty military and fighting with an auto immune disorder.

I have completed a degree in psychology at University of Washington in Tacoma, WA. My passions include holistic health and wellness, yoga, learning, and traveling. I am a very open minded and compassionate individual. Most would call me sensitive but I don’t mind. I am extremely in touch with my emotions and prefer to delve deep into them rather than avoid them like most people. I’m a talker and fixer. It’s a problem I’m working on, but I’m hoping to channel those tendencies into this blog.

As a veteran, milspouse, lgbtq member, and naturopath I hope to offer a wide range of topics to discuss. If there is anything you would like to see me write on please let me know. I hope to write on some of the more controversial issues and injustices plaguing our country today but most of what i wrote will be opinion based and therefore is not the end all be all in my opinion. I am under no impressions that what I say is gold or concrete. Hell, I know a lot of what I say won’t even be agreeable to most that come across my blog, but hopefully something I write will inspire someone to change their perspective on a topic or at the very least expand their knowledge on it. I also hope to be a safe place for people to come when they are in need. I will be writing about rape, eating disorders, mental health, and other personal topics that may trigger some people so please be cautious when reading my posts. I will do my best to use trigger warnings when needed. It is not my intention to hurt or offend anyone with my words. I hope you enjoy what I have to offer and find comfort in some of my writing.
